Evidence of Being a Good Content Writer

I never gloat about my writing, simply because I know there is always room for improvement. Having worked with several editors, I find myself learning new things with each one. I have had editors tell me how great my work is, yet to see how much they have edited. Once I scramble through all of the red lines and circles, I wonder how much of my writing is actually in there. I often wonder if I am a good content writer or not.

Recently I assisted my sister in writing. She was to create a piece to help her get into an honor’s college program. She had wonderful ideas and aspirations for her piece, but she needed help putting it all together. Her thoughts would indeed create a great impact, yet she didn’t know how to transpire them into the written word. She had the content, but she is not a writer. So I acted as a ghostwriter for her.

I sat there and typed as she spoke. I helped her organize her thoughts into sentences. I encouraged her to use words that eliminated the extras; never beat around the bush when you are writing. Always be sure to say it in as little words as possible. The human attention span is extremely short, some more than others. For me, I will get lost if you don’t direct me efficiently. This advice will not only create better content, but also make you a better writer, no matter what the subject.

Although I question myself as a writer most days, I was left enthusiastic after our writing expedition. Once we were completed, I read the essay back to her out loud. She was truly thrilled. I could see the sheer excitement on her face. It wasn’t because her essay was done. It was because everything that she imagined in her mind was now projected onto paper. This is evidence of being a good content writer. There is no specific formula for it. It is simply being able to portray ideas confidently onto paper. Of course, it is always worth the while once you see that your audience is enthusiastic.
